Editorial Reviews, Accolades, and Awards
Let me start off by stating that it is a good thing that Scatter is Book One in the Hearts of Heroes Series. Knowing I will not be leaving these wondrous characters behind at the end of the novel eases my separation anxiety. The characters include Danny, the Deputy US Marshal who is newly assigned to the Superhero support detail or Ayanda, aka Focus, the alien Superhero keeping the world safe will hopefully return. I look forward to more of Rachel, Jia Li, and Eurion who are Dragons that shape-shift into human forms when necessary. Fingers crossed that all these plus new characters will fill the pages of book two.
Scatter captured my full attention from page one. Bragg drops you completely into her world without fanfare. You easily learn as you go about the Superheroes, Super-Villains, and magical creatures in this world which resembles our own but is so much cooler. Case in point, Dragons + Aliens.
The storyline is an imaginative twist to the continuum of time and space in relationship to events. The author adeptly handles the complexities allowing the reader to fully engage in the story. This is an exceptional debut novel from Bragg and should not be missed.

Kota, a sorceress who works as a detective with the Grimmani Detective Agency, is on her way to a new posting on the world of Proximus. She’s been charged with transporting a mystical artifact called a Keystone that will allow Proximus to build a magical gateway back to Kota’s homeworld of Emake Maa. When the Aethership transporting Kota is attacked by pirates, Kota helps fight them off, and finds herself taking care of a half demon woman, Nadani who was being held as a slave on the pirate ship.
When Kota and Nadani arrive on Proximus, Kota is injured in an attempted assassination, and finds herself embroiled in a plot involving cultists who want her dead for some reason. Kota begins to dig into the motives of the assassin while trying to navigate her growing feelings for Nadani. Something made all the harder by more attempts on her life and the emotional minefield that Nadani’s past as a slave left behind.
When Kota learns that the assassins may be after Nadani as well, she becomes desperate to learn what they want. Something that puts her on a collision course with a cult that wants to use Nadani and the Keystone to open a permanent gateway to hell itself. (2024 Goldie winner in Fantasy).
