I Eat My Words, Poetry and Recipes Book Five by Sandra de Helen

Sale Price: $7.95 Original Price: $8.95
"Sandra de Helen's new poetry cookbook, I Eat My Words, is a groundbreaking hybrid collection, executed with creativity, skill, and humor. In this romp through the worlds of poetry and mouth-watering recipes, the author has created a book that is practical, pleasing to the poetic sensibility, and downright fun to read." Sandra Anfang, poet, visual artist, and author of poetry collections Looking Glass Heart; Road Worrier: Poems of the Inner and Outer Landscape; and Xylem Highway "I Eat My Words is Sandra de Helen's love letter to every reader who enjoys preparing and eating good food and finds sustenance in well written poetry. The concept of alternating recipes with poems is delightfully satisfying as well as sensorially appealing. The only request I would ask of the publisher is to place a warning label on this collection's cover" DO NOT SHELVE THIS BOOK WITH YOUR OTHERS! KEEP IT CLOSE TO YOUR KITCHEN!" Renée Bess, author of five novels and Between a Rock and a Soft Place, a collection of her poems, short stories, and essays "[Sandra] de Helen's clever blend of poems and recipes invites the reader to the kitchen to reminisce about the comforts of food and the people we love to share it with. Her delectable home recipes served with a dash of humor evoke the warmth of a country girl turned vegetarian and a life well-lived." Cherie Gough, freelance journalist specializing in food and the people who make its journey to the table possible.

Story of a Kick-Ass Role Model

Jazzy Mitchell has given us a heroine…and perhaps our next president! Love that she gives us a look at the character’s inner conflict. Seems like female politicians are most often portrayed as ambitious to the point that compassion is lost. Not here. Great story.

Sandra de Helen

“Poetry for everyone–even those who don’t read poetry. … I found this collection hard to put down. De Helen’s poems refuse to obey the rules or use their inside voices. By turns pointed, acerbic, poignant, angry, and pensive, the author’s poetic voice is always strong and palpable. There is something for anyone who is engaged in the people’s struggle here, and for everyone who has ever suffered or celebrated the paradoxical ironies of life, which is to say, everyone who is paying attention. Sandra de Helen and her poetry are a force to be reckoned with. 5.0 out of 5 stars Review by Sandra Anfang

Biography

Sandra is primarily a playwright and poet. Her five poetry collections from LPP, Desire Returns for a Visit, Lesbian Humor is Not an Oxmoron, Poetry for the People, The World's A Stage, and I Eat My Words are available now. Having written well over 1,200 poems, she may produce a great many more collections. Between 1976 and 2020, Sandra penned 26 full-length plays, seven one-acts, one opera, and 33 ten-minute plays. She's also written a multitude of short stories, articles, essays, two mystery novels, and a thriller. After a five-year stint in California, Sandra returned to Portland in fall 2021 and lives with her daughter and two curious cats.
